  • Scheme Highlights

  • Odisha government has launched a Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Scheme as ‘Community Harnessing and Harvesting Rainwater Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer (CHHATA). It will be implemented for a period of five years beginning from Fy 2022-23.
  • As per the feasibility based on a Ground Water Resource Assessment(GWRA) conducted in 2020, rainwater harvesting structures will be constructed on the roofs of 29,500 nos of private buildings in 27 nos of Urban local bodies and 1,925 nos of government buildings in 27 urban local bodies and 52 nos of water-stressed blocks .
  • An estimated 373.52 crore litre of water will be harvested during the scheme period between 2022-23 to 2026-27. It will be implemented by Directorate of Ground Water Development, Odisha under Department of Water Resources (DoWR) with an outlay of Rs 270 crore.
  • Eligibility of Beneficiary

  • Building owners having roof area of their buildings of minimum 50 sq.m (500 sq.ft) and maximum 200 sq.m (2150 sq.ft)
  • Buildings not having more than three floors.
  • Buildings owners not having more than one house in same ULB.
  • Buildings owners who have not availed any subsidy under this scheme or RRHS scheme implemented during Fy2014-15 to 2018-19.
  • Benefits

  • 50% of the investment cost(upto a maximum of Rs 55000/- only) actually made by the building owners for the construction of RRHS will be trasferred online as subsidy directly in the active bank account of the beneficiary.
  • Interested building owners can avail technical guidance from GWD empanelled Roof Water Harvesting Consultant(RWHC).
  • Building owners will have to apply online for availing this scheme at www.echhata.odisha.gov.in webportal with an E-challan worth Rs 100/- only
  • Salient Features of RRHS

  • The cost of RRHS includes cost of following four major components:-
  • Rainwater collection unit-PVC pipeline with fittings for rooftop rainwater collection.
  • Filter unit-Masonry tank with a filter bed/ready-made-on-line filter unit.
  • Recharge unit(compulsory for availing subsidy)-Dug well or Bore well or Tube well.
  • Storage unit(optional)-RCC/PVC/HDPE rain water storage tank of required capacity.
